About the Books

Memories of growing up in Southern Indiana during the first half of the 20th Century are revisited from a contemporary perspective and set against a background of local history and family lore. The books are yearly collections of the author's weekly column published in the Mitchell Tribune and the Mitchell Times, with additional materials and photos. They comprise a valuable and entertaining record of our cultural heritage, treating it with respect and affection.

"Joyce's SOUVENIRS was an instant hit with Tribune readers. The way she breathes life into her childhood memories delights readers of all ages. Her blending of food with stories of the way things used to be makes everyone feel right at home."
—Ginger Janda, Assoc. Publisher, Mitchell Tribune

Books are soft bound, with colorful covers which include reproductions of the author's great grandmother's quilt. Many black and white photos illustrate the text. Also included are other written materials of family wisdom and lore. An important part of the books is the collection of more than 50 recipes in each.
